An all round relaxing and exciting experience. You will be collected at Dungbeetle River Lodge's jetty.

Hiking a portion of the famous Alexandria Dune Fields

The dune hike starts with a short canoe ride to dune access.
This experience is well worth having if you are fit and can tackle 6 km of sand dunes. This takes the form of a self guided tour.
Qualified nature guides have plotted a tour of 6 km across the dunes.
Never before will you have had experienced such diversity in such a small section of the dune fields. Find out about the geology, history, fauna and flora of these sensitive dunes and Algoa Bay.
You will be provided with a hand held G.P.S. system, cell phone and refreshments. Arrangements will be made to pick you up at the river mouth where your hike ends
We recommend an early start to this tour and best suited to residents at Dungbeetle River Lodge

Cost - R295.00 per person

Township tour

Be taken into one of Port Elizabeth's townships by Sisa, a
qualified guide. This is his home, and what better than to "do" the township with a resident? Be guided through Red Location Museum.

Touch the heartbeat of the apartheid struggle. Visit Njoli Square where traders beckon you to buy "smilies" (cooked sheep heads) or "walky talkies"(chicken heads and feet). Laugh with them, meet them in a local tavern where the life of the township beats by the pulse of the people. Share a taxi, where there "is always room for one more person" here in South Africa.

Cost - R480 p.p. Approx 3 hrs.

What the Sundays River Offers you..

Fishing on an African river

Let Dennis take you fishing. Learn how to throw a net for live bait, do some prawn pumping (bait) and learn how to collect pencil bait. Then go fishing. Catch yourself a fish and bring it back to the lodge. For a small fee we will set you up with your own private braai (barbecue) and salads.

This often is a fun trip. You will find Dennis a light hearted person with a quick sense of humour.

Cost - R275 p.p. (should be for 2 ½ hours, but could be longer. (Depends on weather and the fish biting!).

Canoes are available to guests of the Dungbeetle River Lodge at no additional cost.

A commercial venture two doors down from the lodge offer canoes at R125 for the day for a 2 man canoe. Booking as early as 48 hours in advance. Contact Dee Richards at 082 897 2859.

Swimming is safe in the river. It is considered the cleanest river ecologically in the Eastern Cape. Open to the sea, the sea water pushes up about 20 km and the river is navigable 17 km.

Safety There have been no incidents of sharks in the river. The shallow river mouth is apparently a deterrent for sharks to enter the river.

Qualified personnel operate this centre, offering excellent massages, acupuncture, bone setting, beauty treatments. For more information please see www.dungbeetle.co.za on the home page. Reservations
